Fact sheet

The facts

What it is
An educational iPhone app that interprets an existing consumer raw-DNA file (.txt, .csv, .zip or .gz) with a focus on food and nutrition. It does not sell DNA tests and is not medical advice.
What it covers
149 curated single-variant entries, each citing PubMed sources, plus 14 carrier conditions and 16 ancestral-diet axes. Medication-response results use the phenotype labels from published clinical pharmacogenomics guidelines, with no dosing instructions.
Price model
Free to download and explore: the overview, every marker's headline result, every medication-response and safety result, top-priority diet tips and six food-trait write-ups. Genomeats Complete is a single one-time in-app purchase (one-time purchase in the US) — no subscription, no account.
Platforms
iPhone (iOS 18 or later). Coming soon to the App Store, United States only at launch; not available to download yet.
Privacy
All analysis runs on the device. No account, no server, no analytics, advertising or tracking code. The raw file is not kept; the saved report holds the genotype at analyzed markers, encrypted on the device and excluded from iCloud and computer backups, with an optional Face ID lock.
Accuracy method
Majority-genotype policy (common genotypes are never presented as risks); alleles verified against the strand each testing company reports; rare chip calls shown only as "Possible — needs clinical confirmation"; sensitive results hidden until the user opts in. The rare-variant rule follows two studies:
  1. Weedon MN et al. Use of SNP chips to detect rare pathogenic variants: retrospective, population based diagnostic evaluation. BMJ 2021 — only 16% of 4,757 very rare chip calls were confirmed by sequencing. PMID 33589468
  2. Tandy-Connor S et al. False-positive results released by direct-to-consumer genetic tests highlight the importance of clinical confirmation testing for appropriate patient care. Genetics in Medicine 2018 — 40% of variants reported in direct-to-consumer raw data were false positives. PMID 29565420
